Phuket sales girls and my first decent clubbing discovery
Since I arrived in Phuket three months ago I’ve been desperately searching for some real nightlife. Recently, I’ve found a couple of places of note. One such place is Club Lime in Patong, located on the beach road next to Rock City and Club Andaman Resort.
I went to Club Lime for the first time on Friday night. What’s good about this place is that it pushes real dance music and the DJs are fairly decent. The music was primarily electro, with a bit of house and tech house to boot. It was real dance floor stuff, although Club Lime doesn’t have much of a dance floor. But still, there is space in front of the bar to dance.
The guys at Club Lime are looking to push clubbing in Phuket to new boundaries. Starting next month, there will be drum ‘n’ bass nights (which I might get involved in) and more DJs will be asked to play. Nakadia is due to play October 12, and after all the stick I’ve been giving her on the Bangkok Recorder forums, I’d like to see her play again.
The only thing with Club Lime is the people who go there. This is something that needs a bit of work. Hopefully a couple of articles I’m writing will drive some actual clubbers to the venue.
At the moment, it feels a bit like Bed Supperclub. Lime is full of old dudes and property sales girls. The sales girls in particular get on my nerves because they do nothing except take pictures of one another and rub their bodies on each other when everybody is looking. Sometimes they just pose and take their own pictures. I’ve never understood this.
One thing I’ve noticed about Phuket is that there are two types of people here: teachers and people working in real estate. Then there are the media people who write about the people working in real estate. If you enjoy talking about commissions and beauty salons then the sales girls will be happy to oblige. You wouldn’t believe how much money these girls are making as well; makes me think I should have been a sales girl.
Other than the sales girls issue, Club Lime is worth checking out.

Phuket also known as James Bond island to alot .. because .. if you look at the above picture.. these was taken for real with one of the James Bond movies .. in the 80s. I cannot remember which one.. but i’ve seen it before.. when i was a kid.
Phuket is definitely very touristy now, unlike those early days. .when i was there. I flew Thai Airways to Phuket.. and the sun and the beach was the best thing there. Unfortunately, accommodation.. and food is not as cheap .. as we thought it would be. But we were staying in a resort.. so everytime we needed to go out.. we had to hire a driver. There were lots of sea sports.. manned by the locals there.. and like i said.. it was fun.. but definitely not cheap at all. But the people in Phuket were very friendly and you are being approached for massages alot.. and prices ranges between 30 - 40 dollars.
Phuket is known as a diving paradise .. the water is so clear.. you can see just about anything under the sea… and since it is surrounded by beaches.. staying in a good resort is very important. Phuket’s night life at Patong is very famous .. you can party from late in the evening to wee hours in the morning. Yes.. they do have the go-go girls.. dancing skimpily on top of a bar.. and bear are really cheap.. but don’t get hassle into seeing some girlie show.. that might cost you a few hundred bucks.. by the time you get out.

Phuket Food & Cuisine
Thursday, July 10, 2008

While you are in Phuket it is worth sampling some real southern Thai food. Some of these you may have heard of and even tried before, such as Gaeng massaman and panaeng, both types of delicious curry. Others you most certainly would never have heard of, many of which are equally delicious.
Southern Thai food makes more use of coconut milk than elsewhere in the country. Curries are richer and creamier. The cuisine is influenced by nearby Malaysia; spices such as cumin, cloves, turmeric and aniseed, which are not used elsewhere in Thailand, are commonly used here. As a result of the heavy muslim influence, less pork is consumed here than in other parts of Thailand.
In Phuket, because many of the local people are descendants of Chinese migrants, the cuisine has a strong Chinese influence. This combined with southern Thai food and muslim food makes a very unique and interesting cuisine.
We have compiled a brief guide to some southern Thai and Phuket specialities that you won't find in Thai restaurants overseas. You will be hard pressed to find these in the more touristy areas such as Patong, so you need to head for Phuket City. Alternatively, for great muslim dishes such as the massaman curry, head for Surin beach or Kamala.
