Vientiane, March 28
Not much to add this week. Too busy with consultations with officials, report writing and getting enough sleep too.
Seems the wet season is arriving early too. Heavy monsoonal rains occurred on 3 evenings this week with the big dark clouds rolling in and then 30 minutes of deluge punctuated with thunder and lightning. First rain I have seen in the 6 weeks I have been here. Really freshened up the atmosphere and suddenly there are green shoots appearing everywhere
I finished a marvellous book this week. “The Horse In Australia”, a birthday gift from Al & Carey, Felicity and Jake. I never realized there was such a rich history of horse breeding in Australia. Banjo Paterson’s “small and weedy beast …. something like a racehorse undersized” comes to life in this book written by Fiona Carruthers. If you have grown up with horses like we did, you will find it a fascinating read.
